Welcome!

Life is working full time, being married for 35 years, being mom to a grown daughter, and 2 15 yr old cats. Zentangle has changed my life, since I began to focus on it, in August of 2012. The most wonderful surprise in all of this , has been finding such a warm and wonderful community built around this art form. Without exception those I have encountered are encouraging, friendly, generous of spirit, and great fun! Thank you, everyone, for the warm welcome. I hope you will enjoy this blog as much as I enjoy yours.

Diva's Challenge #109 + Who am I?

Hello, Fellow Tanglers,

I hope you are well and happy. I wonder if you are as tired of winter as I am. I'm sure looking forward to Spring.

You know, it's come home to me lately, more profoundly than ever, the centering and calming effect tangling has on me. There is a lot of turmoil in life for me, now, and I find myself not just wanting, but actually needing to tangle. I need that time to just be with myself, to stay in the present moment, and to let all the "noise" in my life just go away for a while. I am so thankful to Rick and Maria for gifting me with this respite called Zentangle(C).

This week's Diva's Challenge #109 can be found here . The Zentangle(C) blog introduces this technique/tangle with some helpful and lovely examples, here.

When I looked at Laura's Diva's Challenge this week, I just about croaked. It looked really difficult, and for a time, I almost decided I wouldn't take it on. My curiosity got the best of me, however, and I did try. There is very little that's original in my design. I used almost the exact string that Maria drew as a demonstration, to make sure I got the concept. Although I'm very unhappy with my line work in it, I've decided I will follow Laura's lead, and post my "first try" for each challenge, and then hopefully, if there's time, a second, more daring, design. Thankfully, there was. So, here is my first go:

Diva's Challenge 109: First Try
And this is a really lousy picture, but I am more excited about my second tile. Not that I think it's great, but I had an idea, and I got pretty close.

Just one more note, but an important one.

There has been some confusion, particularly on FB, and on the blogs, because people don't recognize my name. That's no big surprise. To clear it up, my name shows as follows:

BethB: When I comment on the blogs. (My friends call me Beth)

ArtZ by BethB on Flickr, here.

Elizabeth Cline Beveridge (my full moniker) on Facebook, here

BethB's ArtZ Inspirations (Wow, same as my blog! lol) on Pinterest,  here.

The variations are mostly due to what is allowed/available on the different sites.

I've been signing everywhere as BethB (Elizabeth Cline Beveridge on FB) to try to clear up the confusion, so hopefully this will help, as well.

Thank you for visiting. I always love to hear from you.

Until next time, happy tangling!

Beth

  2. Lovely zentangle! I love how the rows go behind the flower areas to give it great dimension. Glad you did the challenge. Remember it's about the process as much, if not more, than the outcome. Isn't the present moment that tangling brings wonderful!

    1. Thank you so much, Sue, for taking the time to stop by and have a look. The process of Zentangle is such a lifesaver for me, keeping me in the moment and quieting my mind. I'm so thankful for that.

I'm glad I had a go at the challenge, as well. Thank you for the kind words about dimension in the tangle. It's actually looking much nicer to me, today. I got a long way on my second tile last night, and will post later today. Have great weekend!

    1. Thank you, Brenda... I like the first, ok, it's just the"training wheels" with using Maria's exact string. The second feels good because it came from my creativity.

  6. Hi, Beth! I think this is my first visit to your blog--but it won't be the last! I like your friendly writing style. And your blog background makes me feel like I'm in a comfy book store. I agree with the comments that everyone above made, and am glad you posted both tiles. Like Danielle, I enjoy the "daisy drapings" of the first tile (her phrase, but I had to borrow it!), and that second tile simply rocks!

Thank you for the compliments on my tiles. I like the first tile better now than I did at first... and I'm really excited about the second.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you'll visit often.

    1. Hi AnneMarie,

Thank you so much for the lovely compliments.

I love the second tile, too. I'm not sure why I'm so excited about it. I think it's because I had what I thought was a good idea, and maybe for the first time, I was able to make it happen. I still consider myself very new to Zentangle. I only started noticing it on Pinterest in June, and it was August before I started trying to draw them.

I'm glad you enjoy the way the blog is written. I'm not any authority on anything... just sharing my steps along the way.

Zentangle is golden, for relaxation for me.

  8. Hello Beth, finally found your blog to place a comment :-))!! Your tiles are wonderful! I too was just about to give up, very, very recognizable, but "the sticker wins".... It must be the stargazing in the second tile that makes it so special, love it!

  10. Hi BethB! I love your first attempt as well as your second. I think it is so interesting to see what we can do in that second attempt, once we get that first new tangle "out of the way". I love, love, love the bands between the rods in the second one the way they zig-zag, so cool!
